Before the web, a BBS's file areas were its library — and textfiles were its currency. tHe sHacK called its file areas g-files: 176 files across 7 areas are cataloged below. One area — the members' personal journals — is withheld from the public catalog for privacy, preserved unopened in the extraction.

What the tree tells you
A board's file areas are a slice of its moment in time, and tHe sHacK's slice is unmistakably mid-2000s homebrew-hacker culture: Phrack issues and cDc communications alongside Linux HOWTOs; How to Become an Unsuccessful, Burned-Out SysOp filed with total sincerity; BBS lists and ANSI captures traded like baseball cards. The board also wrote its own help files — how to quote a message, how to make a room — and they sit in the same tree, alongside everything else, exactly as callers browsed them.
Every cataloged file is listed with the description callers saw in the file list (files without a stored description show as —). The files themselves are readable on the live board under G.
